On October 18th, 2016, I had the privilege to be one of eight mentors at the Ad2Dallas Speed Career Connections: Take the Next Step in Your Career event at Citizen Dallas. I was surrounded by successful advertising professionals with more than twenty years of experience, who just like me, were there to provide young professionals with advice and share with them the ins-and-outs of our crazy world.
Each mentor had about 10 minutes with 4 attendees at a time; I must've talked to about thirty of them by the end of the night. Time flew by and we were always left wanting to chat more. We laughed, talked about job-hunting, recruiters, tips on how to advance in your career and shared stories that allowed for everyone in the group to feel comfortable talking and asking questions.
This group of millennials was eager to learn from others and succeed. Having mentored before, the task came easy to me, however, it was by far one of the most excited group of young professionals I had encountered in a while. All eager to roll-up their sleeves and put in the time. Open to advice and feedback. I walked out thankful and energized.
Here are some of the tips I shared with them:
Thank you for the opportunity, Ad2Dallas. Happy to join forces again.
